DESCRIPTIONMonolith (for new mexico) is a portal, a frame, and a tribute to the land of New Mexico. Standing against the mountains of Taos, this 8-foot-tall work was mixed and poured by hand as a single monolithic pour. The sculpture’s foundation extends past the frost line – three feet below the earth – ensuring that the work weathers the passing seasons for decades to come.
The circular aperture at Monolith’s center acts as a keyhole, drawing the viewer’s gaze to the sweeping beauty of the Taos landscape beyond. As the sun sets and mountains begin to glow, the sculpture transforms the act of looking into an intentional experience. It invites passersby to pause, frame the landscape, and engage in a moment of quiet contemplation – serving simultaneously as a threshold and a destination.
