Year of the Snake

DESCRIPTIONYear of the Snake is an interactive light and sound installation that evokes the sinuous presence of serpents suspended in midair. Reclaiming the rigid, industrial geometry of air-conditioning ducts, the work transforms these utilitarian materials into fluid, organic forms. Inspired by the Year of the Snake, the installation draws on both the physical grace of the serpent and its symbolic significance within Vietnamese culture, where snakes have long been revered as powerful emblems of transformation and becoming.

Winding sound-responsive LED lights through flexible ducts, the installation forms two spiraling serpents that dance between color and shadow. Echoing the snake's association with renewal and rebirth, the work transforms everyday industrial materials into living, luminous forms, revealing the potential for renewal within even the most ordinary structures.

The interplay between the two "snakes" is central to the installation’s immersive effect. One snake, constructed of ribbed plastic, diffuses the LED lights in soft gradients. The other, clad in aluminum, scatters the reflective glow across the space. As sound fills the room, the lights ripple in response, bringing the serpentine form to life as a shifting, breathing entity of light and sound. Together, they create an environment of movement and metamorphosis, inviting viewers to reflect on transformation not as a singular event, but as a continuous state of growth and change.
